PSA Venn Diagrams

Well, it’s time again for another installment of visual aids!—this time, Venn Diagrams for the benefit of the General Public. Yes, through the exciting drama of circles that do and do not overlap, we will find the beginnings of true wisdom.

[UPDATE: a response to the ‘being a better person & musician’ diagram has now been posted at http://pwuth.blogspot.com/2015/08/better-person-better-musician-responses.html!]

Let’s start simple:

White ‘chocolate’ is not chocolate at all. It does not contain any cocoa solids. It may have cocoa butter, but then again, so do your chapstick and body lotion. NOT CHOCOLATE.

In a similar vein:

Smooth jazz is not jazz.

Now, for subway riders the world over, but especially for those in NYC:

Stairs are for walking.

And now, the Arts!

The English horn is neither English nor a horn.

The culinary arts!

Made of mystery and poor judgment.

And now we move on to more advanced diagrams. First, safety begins with knowledge, and knowing is half the battle. Therefore, safety begins with half the battle (?). Choose a side:

Possibly also good for both: Smokey the Bear, depending on where his ultimate loyalties lie…

For the music community:

Also in the inner circle: PASSION.

[UPDATES: After 28,000 shares on social media, see some of the best collected comments about this diagram at http://pwuth.blogspot.com/2015/08/better-person-better-musician-responses.html. Also: now available as a poster, T-shirt, stickers, and more, at http://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/62141773.]

For my friends and many others, whether they be happily married or still single:

*Magic tricks: as long as you don’t saw your date in half.

For the swing dance community:

And finally, a PSA for the benefit of those poor souls who, bless their souls, can just never look quite American enough:

Behold the power of circles!!! Also, remember, folks, there are circles other than mine. Feel free to contribute your own diagrams, or ideas or feedback for future rounds (ha) below. And keep in mind:

  1. I like your music diagram. I would like to know where I can purchase this as a poster for the middle school music classroom or if I can get permission for making it into a poster.

  2. Thank you, Gordon. This is like Set Theory for Dummies! Or a prerequisite for Visual Display of Real-World Ontologies.
Unrelated: Where do you post your performances?
